This species is widely distributed in Eurasia. It was introduced into N. America during the 19th century. It also occurs, probably mostly as an adventive, in several places in Africa, SE. Asia and Australia. It is reported among the circumpolar plants by Hultén (Circumpol. I, p. 136 and map 128), although the distribution is discontinuous. Cf. world map in Meusel et al. 1965, p. 24.
