This widespread species originates from N. America. It has been introduced into Europe and spread to waste places, where it occurs more or less occasionally. However, ts occurrence there is incompletely known. Further, it has been introduced into E. Asia and several countries outside the map area. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 178.
