This species includes several lower taxa, in Europe three subspecies according to Fl. Eur. 1/1964, p. 198 f. On the present map the subsp. superbus and subsp. speciosus (Reich.) Pawl. are drawn together. Subsp. stenocalyx (Trautv.) Kleop. in C. and S. Russia, var. longicalycinus (Maxim.) Williams in E. Asia and the species D. hoeltzeri Winkl. in C. Asiatic mountains are also presented on this map. In several localities the species is adventive, for instance in Finland. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 142.
