This species has a wide distribution in Europe (except N), N. Africa and parts of W. and C. Asia. The occurrence in Asia is incompletely known. It has been introduced into N. America, probably more extensively than shown on the map. Cf. also world map in Meusel et al. 1965, p. 83.
