1886 Picris hieracioides L.

This polymorphic species occurs in mast of Europe (except N) and through Asia (different taxa). In Fl. Eur. 4/1976, p. 317, five subspecies are distinguished with more or less well-defined ranges. Mast of the occurrences in Fennoscandia are adventive (subsp. hieracioides). Among the Asiatic taxa three subspecies are tentatively mapped, viz. subsp. kamtschatica (Ledeb.) Hult., subsp. japonica (Thunb.) Krylow and subsp. kaimaensis (Kitam.) Kitam. The species has been introduced into N. America, S. Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
