1088 Sanguisorba officinalis L.

This species (including the arctic S. polygama Nyl., probably a variety of S. officinalis) occurs through most of Eurasia and in western N. America. It grows as an anthropochor in Fennoscandia and certainly elsewhere, for instance in N. America. It is recorded as an interglacial and late-glacial fossil (pollen and fruits) from Holland and the British lsles (Godwin, Hist. Brit. Fl. 195 6, p. 118) and S. Scandinavia (cf.
