This widespread species has a rather scattered distribution in Europe, continuing through C. Russia and SW. Siberia (subsp. danicus). Further to the east, in Siberia (perhaps a larger area than indicated on the map) and in western N. America subsp. dasyglottis (Fisch.) Ledeb. (syn.: A. agrestis Dougl., A. goniatus Nutt.) occurs.
