This mainly boreal species is widely distributed in Eurasia and N. America. It belongs to the circumpolar plants (Hultén, Circumpol. Il, p. 122 and map 113). Some finds of postglacial fossils (seeds) N of the present range are marked on the map. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 348.
