This variable species occurs as a native and adventive plant in mast of Europe (except N and E) and adjacent parts of NW. Africa and Asia Minor. It is most frequent towards W. Europe. The occurrences in C. and N. Fennoscandia are casual. The species has been introduced into S. Africa, N. and S. America, Australia and New Zealand.
