The distribution of this Eurasiatic species is incompletely known, especially in E. Europe and Asia. In Scandinavia and certainly many other places in Eurasia it occurs only casually. It has been introduced into N. America and several parts of southern hemisphere. With its present distribution the species belongs to the discontinuous circumpolar plants (Hultén, Circumpol. Il, p. 198 and map 189).
