This mainly European species grows on Achillea spp. and other Compositae. The distribution is uncertain in, for instance, France and Spain. It has been sparsely introduced into N. America. It is replaced towards the east by the closely related O. uralensis G. Beck, growing on Artemisia spp. Its approximate distribution is also mapped.
