173 Luzula multiflora (Retz.) Lej. subsp. frigida (Buch.) V. Krecz.

This arctic-montane subspecies is sometimes given the rank of species (L. frigida [Buch.] Sam.). It belongs to the circumpolar plants (Hultén, Circumpol. I, p. 72 and map 64). The Siberian population is distinguished as L. multiflora subsp. sibirica V. Krecz. in Fl. Aret. URSS 4, map p. 47. Further, the distribution of two varieties are tentatively mapped, viz. var. fusconigra Celak. in eastern N. America and var. intermedia Rydb. in the Rocky Mts.
