Syn. Roegneria borealis (Turcz.) Nevski, Agropyron latiglume (Scribn. & Sm.) Rydb. subsp. eurasiaticum Hult.

This arctic-montane species comprises a group of taxa which have together a circumpolar distribution. In Fl. Eur. 5/1980, p. 194, this species s. lat. is named Elymus alaskanus (Scribn. & Merr.) A. Löve with three subspecies in N. Europe, viz. (a) subsp. borealis (Turcz.) Meld. in the arctic and montane area of NE. Russia (surrounded by a solid line on the map), continuing eastwards through N. Siberia and, according to Hultén in Fl. Alaska Neighbor. Terr., p. 187, also occurring in northern N. America (cf. also Porsild & Cody 1980, p. 73 and map 90), (b) subsp. scandicus (Nevski) Meld. in NW. Russia, N. Fennoscandia and lceland, and (c) subsp. subalpinus (Neum.) Meld. In the C. and S. Scandes. Outside Europe Agropyron boreale subsp. hyperarcticum (Polun.) Meld. occurs on Greenland and in N. America, where it sometimes may have been confused with subsp. boreale (and subsp. alaskanum [Scribn. & Merr.] Meld.).
