This arctic-montane species is somewhat variable within its wide range (see Hultén, Circumpol. I, p. 28). It. belongs to the circumpolar plants (op. cit., p. 28 and map 22). Further, the closely related Asiatic J. leucochlamys Zing., J. macrantherus Krecz. & Gontsch., J. triceps Rostk. and J. himalensis Klotzsch are tentatively mapped.
