The map shows the distribution of most of the taxa within the A. ciliata complex. (A. humifusa, no. 710, may in fact also be included in this complex.) The taxonomic treatment of the complex varies (cf. Fl. Eur. 1/1964, p. 120). Recorded on the map are the C. European subsp. ciliata (syn.: subsp. tenella [Kit.] Br.Bl.), the amphi-atlantic subsp. pseudofrigida Ostenf. & Dahl (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 84 and map 65), the northern subsp. norvegica (Gunn.) Fr., subsp. gothica Fr. with disjunct European distribution, the Irish subsp. hibernica Ostenf. & Dahl and subsp. moehringioides (J. Murr.) Br.-Bl. in the W. Alps; the A. ciliata populations of the Pyrenees and Spain (with uncertain distribution) probably belong to this subspecies. The gothica population in England is considered by Halliday (Watsonia 5/1960, p. 209) to be a separate taxon (A. norvegica Gunn. subsp. anglica Halliday) and likewise probably the population in Swiss Jura (1. cit.).
