637 Urtica urens L.

This distinct species originates probably from C. Europe and the Mediterranean area. It now has a wide, almost worldwide distribution, although the occurrences in the southern hemisphere are still scattered. The N. American part of the map is incomplete. With its present distribution this species belongs to the circumpolar plants (Hultén, Circumpol. Il, p. 272 and map 264).
