This widespread species has partly a rather disjunct distribution. Some lower taxa have been distinguished (Hultén, Circumpol. I, p. 96). The species is reported among the circumpolar plants (1. cit. And map 87) in spite of the wide gaps in the Atlantic and Beringian areas between the Eurasiatic and N. American ranges.
