This variable species has a disjunct distribution, in Europe and C. and E. Siberia (preliminary mapping). There is still some uncertainty as to taxonomy and distribution. The closely related P. longiscapa Ledeb. in W. and C. Asia is also mapped. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 337.
