437 Carex dioica L.

This species s. lat. is widely distributed in Eurasia and N. America. Subsp. dioica occurs from W. Europe to C. Asia, and subsp. gynocrates (Wormsk.) Hult. (C. gynocrates Wormsk.) in E. Asia and northern N. America and on W. Greenland. The gap between these taxa in W. and C. Siberia is on the whole filled by the closely related C. redowskiana C. A. Mey. (see map no. 439). C. dioica s. lat. belongs to the circumpolar plants (Hultén, Circumpol. I, p. 170 and map 161).
