1809 Matricaria maritima L.

Syn.: Tripleurospermum maritimum (L.) Koch

This polymorphic species includes same taxa which together form a complex with circumpolar distribution (Hultén, Circumpol. Il, p. 296, 398 and map 287). The taxa recorded here are subsp. phaeocephala (Rupr.) Rauschert, an arctic, circumpolar sea-shore and inland plant, subsp. inodora (C. Koch) Soó (syn.: M. perforata Merat) probably originating genetically from the sea-shore type in W. and N. Europe (subsp. maritima, Fl. Eur. 4/1976, p. 166) and as a weed occupying large areas of Europe, W. and E. Asia and N. America, and, finally, the closely related M. ambigua Kryl. in parts of W. and C. Asia.
