1450 Rhododendron lapponicum (L.) Wahlenb.

This species is arctic in N. Europe and Greenland, for the rest also subarctic and montane. The population in Siberia and Alaska is distinguished as R. parvifolium Adams in Fl. USSR 18, p. 36/45. Hultén cannot accept the specific rank of this taxon (Amphi-atl., p. 200, and Fl. Alaska Neighbor. Terr., p. 718). The species belongs to the amphi-atlantic plants according to Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 200, but might just as well be regarded as a circumpolar plant with a wide gap in NE. Europe and W. Siberia.
