This subarctic-boreal species belongs to the circumpolar plants (Hultén, Circumpol. Il, p. 172 and map 163). In eastern N. America and SW. Greenland a closely related taxon, here distinguished as a subspecies, occurs, viz. subsp. glaucophylla (Link) Hult. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 328.
