This species is widely distributed in Eurasia and the adjacent part of Africa. The population in NE. Russia and Asia belongs, generally speaking, to subsp. aemula Woron. It also occurs in C. and S. Africa (introduced?). Cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 306.
