This species occurs in Europe (except the northern parts), N. Africa and W. and C. Asia. It appears mostly as a weed in fields. It has been introduced into one place at Ieast in southern N. America. S of the broken Iine through Europe the closely related F. schrammii (Asch.) Velen. occurs. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 174.
