This mainly European species has several ecotypic variations (Fl. Eur. 3/1972, p. 277). It is not probable that this species is native in Asia and N. America. It is, however, recorded among the amphi-atlantic plants by Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 138 and map 119). Cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 409.
