Rumex thyrsiflorus
660 Rumex acetosa L. subspp. acetosa and thyrsiflorus (Fingerh.) Hayek
These two subspecies of the polymorphic species R. acetosa L. are indigenous in Eurasia (see further no. 661). The mapping in N. Russia and Siberia is incomplete (cf. Atlas Fl. Eur. 4/1979, maps 439, 441). The N. American population is considered as originating from Europe (subsp. acetosa, possibly also subsp. thyrsiflorus). No doubt there are more localities in N. America than shown on the map by dots. The species has also been introduced into several scattered places around the world. With its distribution of today R. acetosa s. lat. (in particular subsp. acetosa) belongs to the circumpolar plants (Hultén, Circumpol. Il, p. 298 and map 289).
