This polymorphic sea-shore species belongs to the C. paleacea group (cf. no. 468). It has an amphi-atlantic distribution (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 282 and map 263). The N. American population seems to be somewhat aberrant, sometimes named C. lanceata Dew.
