1487 Limonium vulgare Mill.

This species occurs on W. European maritime saltmarshes (subsp. vulgare). The Mediterranean population is distinguished as subsp. serotinum (Rchb.) Gams. Further, the range of the closely related L. gmelinii (Willd.) Kuntze on alkaline soils in E. Europe and W. and C. Asia is tentatively mapped. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 345.
