Total range of this European species is represented by two subspecies (Fl. Eur. 2/1968, p. 74), viz. subsp. laevigata, mainly in the W. part of the range and in the lowlands, and subsp. palmstruchii (Lindm.) Franco, mainly in the E. part and in the mountains.
