Syn.: Asperula tinctoria L.

This species is most frequent in E. Europe and adjacent parts of Asia (probably more localities in Asia Minor). It has been introduced into several localities on the Fennoscandian mainland. The population in the Pyrenees and W. Alps is distinguished as var. pyrenaicum Rouy & Fouc.
