Syn.: Omalotheca norvegica (Gunn.) Schultz Bip. & F. W. Schultz

This arctic-montane species has a disjunct distribution from northeastern N. America through Europe to the C. Asiatic mountains. It belongs to the amphiatlantic plants (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 48 and map 29). The closely related G. caucasicum Leskov in Caucasus and Asia Minor is also mapped.
