Syn.: int. al. Batrachium circinatum (Sibth.) Spach, B. caespitosum S. F. Gray (non Thuill.), B. joeniculaceum (Gilib.) Krecz. (Fl. USSR). This widespread species s. lat. is almost circumpolar. The lines are tentatively drawn. The N. American population is distinguished as var. subrigidus (L.) Benson. This taxon occurs, according to Porsild and Cody 1980, map 558, further towards north in N. America than the present map shows. R. longirostris Godr. seems to be very closely related to this variety and often confused with it.
