1158 Sorbus aucuparia L.

This species s. lat. and several other taxa belong to this complex. Five European subspecies are reported in Fl. Eur. 2/1968, p. 68, some of which are distinguished as species by Hedlund (K. Sv. Vet.-Ak. Handl., n. s., 35:1, 1901) but should rather be regarded as subspecies. The following more or less European taxa are mapped here, viz. S. aucuparia subsp. aucuparia in most of the European range of the species except in N. Fennoscandia, subsp. praemorsa (Guss.) Nym. in the C. Mediterranean area, subsp. glabrata (Wimm. & Grab.) Caj. in northernmost Europe and S. sibirica Hedl. in NE. Europe and Siberia. S. boissieri Schneid. in N. Asia Minor and Caucasus is also represented here. Further, four E. Asiatic taxa are mapped, viz. S. amurensis Koehne, S. commixta Hedl., S. kamtschatkensis Kom. and S. anadyrensis Kom. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 209. Four N. American taxa are also represented, viz. S. scopulina Greene in the western mountain region, S. decora (Sarg.) Schneid., S. americana Marsh. and S. decora var. groenlandica Schneid. In the east and in SW. Greenland. Altogether this complex has an almost unbroken circumpolar distribution (Hultén, Circumpol Il, p. 352 f. and map 120). For S. domestica L. in C. and S. Europe, see map in Meusel et al., I. cit.
