This species occurs on some of the W. European maritime saltmarshes. At least three closely related species occur in eastern N. America. This group of species has an amphi-atlantic distribution (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 290 and map 272). Cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 346.
