1817 Artemisia vulgaris L. subsp. vulgaris

The map of this polymorphic species is, as far as possible, restricted to subsp. vulgaris. Its origin seems to be uncertain, although the Pacific region is mentioned as the origin of the whole A. vulgaris complex (Hegi VI:2, p. 639). However, the plant has spread widely with settlement and agriculture. Formerly it was a troublesome weed. This species s. str. (subsp. vulgaris) has been introduced, for instance, into N. America and S. Asia. Closely related taxa occur in E. Asia and W. America.
