Syn.: C. lapponicum Cr., C. trigynum Vill.

This arctic to subarctic-montane species occurs disjunctly in Eurasia and northeastern N. America. Among the southern montane populations some lower taxa are distinguished (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 48). The species belongs to the amphi-atlantic plants (I. cit.).
