Syn.: A. agrestis L.

This species originates from W. and S. Europe. It has been spread in the rural landscape northwards in Europe and eastwards, even into Asia. It has also been introduced into N. America. In the SE. part of the range the closely related A. creticus Trin. occurs (circles), probably more frequently than the map indicates.
