Astragalus alpinus
1190 Astragalus alpinus L.
This polymorphic, arctic-montane species is widely distributed in Eurasia and N. America. The distribution of the lower taxa is somewhat complicated. A. alpinus s. str. (subsp. alpinus) has a wide, almost circumpolar distribution. In the arctic region subsp. arcticus (Bge) Lindm. seems to dominate. In Alaska and adjacent areas subsp. alaskanus Hult. occurs. In eastern N. America subsp. brunetianus (Fem.) Hult. and var. labradoricus (DC.) Fem. are distinguished. Totally, the species belongs to the circumpolar plants (Hultén, Circumpol. Il, p. 319 and map 42).
