1878 Tragopogon pratensis L.

This polymorphic species originates mainly from the open grassland areas of C., S. and E. Europe and W. Asia. From there it has spread with agriculture towards W and N. Among the three subspecies mentioned in Fl. Eur. 4/1976, p. 324, subsp. orientalis (L.) Celak. is distinguished by a southern and eastern distribution in Europe. The species has been introduced into N. and S. America and New Zealand.
