This species has a disjunct distribution in Europe, viz. on the Baltic islands of Öland and Gotland and in the mountains of C. and NE. Spain and SW. France. The approximate distribution areas of the closely related G. willkommii Nym. (syn.: G. punctata Lapeyr.) in C. and S. Europe and E. Russia and G. trichosantha Fisch. & Mey. in C. Russia, Caucasus and Asia Minor are also recorded on the map. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 418.
