1454 Arctostaphylos uva-ursi (L.) Spreng.

This widespread species is rather variable in N. America. The species s. str. (subsp. or var. uva-ursi) and three varieties in N. America are mapped, viz. var. adenotricha Fem. & Macbr., var. coactilis Fem. & Macbr. and var. fendleriana (Klotzsch) Eastw. (New Mexico). The species belongs to the circumpolar plants (Hultén, Circumpol. Il, p. 158 and map 149). There is, however, a gap in the Beringia area. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 329.
