This species is mainly restricted to Europe. It has probably been introduced into N. America as well as into outlying localities in Europe and W. Asia. Nevertheless, it is registered among the amphiatlantic plants (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 166 and map 147). Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 167.
