1872 Centaurea phrygia L.

This species s. lat. occurs in N., C. and E. Europe and adjacent parts of Asia. Fl. Eur. 4/1976, p. 293 f., distinguishes nine subspecies. Here the distribution of subsp. phrygia, mainly an eastern taxon, and subsp. pseudophrygia (C. A. Mey.) Gugl., a western taxon, is tentatively marked. The closely related subsp. abbreviata (C. Koch) Dostal in the Caucasus region is mapped separately.
