This widespread, boreal-montane species is an amphi-atlantic plant with a tendency towards circumpolar distribution (Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 268 and map 250). In E. Asia it is replaced by the closely related P. renifolia Maxim. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 325.
