Syn.: Gentianella tenella (Rottb.) Börn.

This variable, arctic-montane species has a circumpolar distribution. It is reported among the amphiatlantic plants by Hultén, Amphi-atl., p. 242 and map 224. The population in Caucasus is distinguished as var. dechyana (Somm. & Lev.) Hult. At least a part of the population in W. U.S.A. belongs to var. monantha (Nels.) Rouss. & Raym. In the Himalayas a closely related species G. pedunculata Royle occurs. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1978, map p. 355.
