This Eurasiatic species occurs in most of Europe (except extreme N and NE) and probably infrequently in W. Asia. The isolated E. Asiatic population is distinguished as var. manshurica Kom. (syn.: N. papilligera Schlecht.). In Asia other closely related taxa are distinguished. Cf. also Meusel et al. 1965, map p. 105.
