1874 Carlina vulgaris L.

This polymorphic species occurs in most of Europe and in W. and C. Asia. Fl. Eur. 4/1976, p. 210 distinguishes three subspecies. For two of them, viz. subsp. vulgaris and subsp. longifolia Nym., the distribution is tentatively marked. For details in Fennoscandia, see Hultén, Atlas 1971, maps 1748, 1749. The species has been introduced into at least one place in N. America.
