This species is mainly restricted to W. Europe. It has been introduced into eastern N. America, where it has escaped from gardens and parks. A southern counterpart, occurring in the Mediterranean region, is L. etrusca Santi. This species has escaped from gardens and parks on the Queen Charlotte Is. (W. Canada).
