This slightly variable species is widely distributed in Eurasia and N. America. Its distribution in especially Siberia is still incompletely known. It is probably extinct at the SW. German locality. The species belongs to the circumpolar plants (Hultén, Circumpol. Il, p. 98 and map 90).
