1821 Artemisia maritima L. complex

Syn.: Seriphidium maritimum (L.) Poljak.

This polymorphic species belongs to a group of closely related species with Eurasiatic distribution (Karin Persson in Op. Bot. [Lund] 35/1974; Fl. Eur. 4/1976, p. 180ff.). Within A. maritima two subspecies are distinguished, viz. subsp. maritima occurring along the coasts of W. Europe, and subsp. humifusa (Fr.) K . Perss. on the Baltic islands of Öland, Gotland and Ösel (Saarema). Other taxa S and E of the line, for instance A. santonicum L. (Fl. Eur. 4/1976, p. 182) from Austria to Kazakhstan, are distinguished, especially in Asia (Fl. SSSR 26), probably partly included in this map.
